At Treasure Valley Landscape, we are honored any time we can support our clients beyond routine maintenance, especially when it involves sustainability, youth leadership, and community collaboration. That is why we were so proud to be part of a recent initiative at Micron’s Boise campus. A community garden, built in partnership with Micron employees and Girl Scout Troop 379, was designed to enhance the site’s landscape and inspire future-focused environmental thinking.
The idea took shape thanks to a chance conversation between Auriane Koster, Micron’s Boise Site Sustainability Senior Manager, and Cassandra Myers, Facilities Department Admin and leader of Girl Scout Troop 379. Auriane had recently visited Micron’s MSB campus in Singapore and was inspired by their system of department-led vertical gardens. Around the same time, Cassandra’s troop was searching for a Silver Award project that would have a lasting community impact. One of the girls had suggested building a community garden. When Cassandra saw notes about a potential garden in Auriane’s office, the two quickly connected the dots.
What started as an idea, quickly gained momentum. With guidance from the Micron Facilities Capital Planning and Architecture and Engineering teams, Troop 379 began planning garden boxes to be placed along the site’s greenbelt. The planter boxes themselves were built by Micron engineers using salvaged wood from the Boise campus, reinforcing the project’s focus on sustainability and reuse. Sherwin-Williams provided the build location, paint, and supplies, and Treasure Valley Landscape joined to support the installation of irrigation, provide soil, assist with garden bed placement, and help the troop bring their garden to life.
Treasure Valley Landscape’s Contribution
Our team was honored to play a hands-on role in supporting this effort. As Micron’s trusted landscape partner in the Boise area, we were already familiar with the space and eager to help this garden integrate seamlessly into the existing site design.
Specifically, Treasure Valley Landscape:
“It’s always rewarding to support our local community, and it’s a bonus to add a little extra beautification to one of the properties I get to see almost every day,” said Manny Lopez, Production Manager at Treasure Valley Landscape.
Our involvement continues throughout the growing season. We will maintain the irrigation system and help the garden thrive while the Girl Scouts prepare to transition long-term care of the beds to Micron’s individual departments. The model mirrors the inspiration from Singapore, where each garden is maintained by a specific team.
A Small Garden with Big Impact
Though modest in scope, this project aims to create a green space using sustainable practices. By implementing raised garden beds, the need for gasoline-powered equipment is limited, and the installation of bubbler nozzles ensures precise water delivery to plant roots, supporting both conservation and plant health. The selection of drought-tolerant species, along with the repurposing of construction materials for garden beds, further underscores a commitment to resource efficiency and sustainability. The garden serves as an example of how thoughtful landscaping choices contribute meaningfully to responsible environmental stewardship and reflect the broader sustainability aspirations of the workplace.
In addition to environmental benefits, the garden creates a new space for employees to connect with nature. It also serves as a symbol of community and collaboration, something that resonates deeply within the culture at Micron.
A Community Collaboration
For the Girl Scouts, this project was an opportunity to learn new skills, show leadership, and earn their Silver Award while making a lasting difference. From early planning through final planting, Troop 379 played a central role in making the garden a reality.
For Micron, it reflects a strong culture of innovation and sustainability. It also highlights how simple, grassroots ideas can grow into impactful, on-site projects that inspire participation across departments.
For Treasure Valley Landscape, it was a chance to support a client we respect and a cause we believe in. We were one of several contributors involved in this project, and we are proud to have played a part in helping it succeed.
